What is Counselling?
(& Psychotherapy)
Counselling is a collaborative process that uses evidence-based frameworks to help you explore and enhance your wellbeing.
By recognising you as the expert in your own life, counselling empowers you to discover practical solutions, gain deeper insights, and work towards a more fulfilling quality of life.
Additionally, psychotherapy goes a little deeper. Psychotherapy is a holistic approach that focuses on the whole person, encompassing your mind, body, emotions, relationships and spirit. It addresses a wide range of concerns, from everyday challenges, to mental health issues and severe mental illness. Rooted in the belief that mental health struggles often stem from past interpersonal trauma, psychotherapy aims to uncover and heal the underlying causes of distress. While symptom relief can begin early on, the main goal is to create lasting change by promoting personal growth and well-being. Psychotherapists offer a supportive environment to help individuals find meaning, purpose, and hope in their healing journey (PACFA).

What Counselling is not…
Counsellors do not diagnose, perform psychological testing or prescribe medication. Counsellors generally do not provide formal assessments or clinical reports. We are not currently subsidised under mental health plans or medicare (although private health is sometimes now availbale). We do not make decisions for our clients. We don’t offer advice or quick fix solutions. However, we can partner with or refer you to other professionals where required.
